Adolescence, Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH)

In recent years, adolescents in the age group of 10-19 years have emerged as a distinct population group with special needs. Practically, all the national policies and programmes that have been issued in the last decade have stressed the need to address adolescence issues. More importantly, NCERTs curriculum framework for the school education 2000 has recommended integration of adolescence related concerns and issues in the school curriculum. This emerging concern about the health and development of adolescents has prompted Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti to launch a three year pilot project for upgrading competencies of school teachers and school Staff Nurses of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas to enable them to provide life skills education and counseling to secondary school students through co-educational activities. In continuation to this pilot project, JNV Hassan hosted a five day orientation programme for teachers from 10 schools with the intention of spreading this message and its implementation.
